GOST, EN and API valve standards: what export buyers verify
Export inquiries often mix three separate layers: product design standards, test standards and legally required conformity. A reference to GOST, EN, ISO, API or ASME does not by itself define the complete technical and regulatory basis.

A valve is rarely governed by one standard
One document may govern body design, another flange geometry or face-to-face dimensions, and another pressure testing and allowable leakage. “Valve to EN” is therefore incomplete. A datasheet should list every applicable document and edition.
Similar DN and PN markings do not prove interchangeability. Flange series, pressure-temperature ratings, materials, tolerances and leakage criteria can differ. Procurement teams should compare requirements line by line.
Where GOST fits an export specification
GOST is an established contractual basis in CIS markets. A buyer elsewhere may instead require EN, ISO, API or ASME rules, specific material grades, end connections, inspection stages and traceability records.
The manufacturer should demonstrate compliance to each stated requirement or list a deviation. A GOST product cannot simply be relabelled as EN/API without design review, material verification and the specified tests.
EU supply adds a regulatory layer
Applicability of the EU Pressure Equipment Directive 2014/68/EU depends on equipment type, fluid group, pressure, volume or DN and resulting risk category. The category affects the conformity-assessment route and whether a notified body participates.
CE marking is the outcome of an applicable conformity procedure, not a generic quality badge. Before offering a valve for an EU project, determine PED scope, classification, essential safety requirements, technical file, material route, risk assessment and conformity module.
Build an auditable compliance matrix
A useful export package starts with a guaranteed datasheet, dimensional drawing, bill of materials, inspection and test plan, and document schedule. Heat numbers and test reports should remain traceable to the supplied unit or batch.
If an approval or certificate is not available, disclose that before contract award. The parties can then assess third-party inspection, project-specific testing or a restricted application instead of relying on ambiguous marketing language.
