Industrial valves for power generation and steam systems

Power-plant valve selection is governed by the pressure-temperature combination, thermal cycling, feedwater chemistry and unit start-up regime—not pressure alone. Body, bonnet, trim, bolting, packing, end connections and actuation must be reviewed for each line-list position.

Operating context

Superheated steam sets limits for body material, bolting, gasket and packing systems.

Thermal cycles and rapid warm-up can change alignment, operating torque and seat tightness.

Feedwater and condensate duties require review of velocity, differential pressure, cavitation and flashing risk.

Selection factors

  • design pressure and temperature as one rating point
  • material grade, toughness requirements and heat treatment
  • bolted-bonnet or pressure-seal construction, stem and packing
  • manual, geared or electric actuation with torque basis
  • NDT scope, pressure testing and witness or hold points
