Factory acceptance test for industrial valves

A valve FAT should verify the approved purchase configuration and record measurable results. It works best when the procedure, ITP, acceptance criteria and document status are agreed before the inspection date.

Freeze the FAT basis

Use approved datasheets, drawings, bill of materials, deviations, test procedures and ITP. List sampled or fully inspected tags and readiness documents.

Issue notice within the agreed period. A witness date should begin after internal tests and document review are complete.

Verify identity and construction

Check nameplate, tag, serial, DN, rating, ends, flow direction, materials, operator and accessories. Compare dimensions and visual condition with approved drawings.

Review traceability and material certificates for the selected valves before pressure testing.

Witness pressure and functional tests

Confirm medium, pressure, duration, orientation, leakage method, gauge range and calibration. Record actual results for shell and closure tests.

Cycle the actuator and verify direction, travel, switches, fail action, timing, current or air pressure and manual override.

Close coating, documents and release

Review coating DFT and repair records, cleanliness, preservation, caps, lifting and packing. Log every punch item with owner and due date.

Release follows accepted tests, closed hold points and agreed document status. A conditional release should state remaining actions clearly.
