GOST 9544 valve leakage classes: procurement guide

A GOST 9544 leakage class becomes useful when the contract also identifies the applicable edition, test conditions and valve scope. Buyers should avoid translating a class letter into a generic tight shutoff promise.

Name the exact standard and edition

Record GOST 9544 with the contractual edition and applicable national adoption. Confirm that the valve type and test route fall within its scope.

When API, ISO or EN criteria also appear, define which standard governs each test and how conflicts are resolved.

Define the closure test conditions

State test medium, pressure, temperature, duration, flow direction and seat side. Identify whether visible leakage, measured volume or another criterion applies.

A class cannot be reviewed independently from nominal size and test conditions. Require actual test values where the project needs quantitative evidence.

Match the class to design and service

Check whether the offered soft or metal seat design can meet the requested class over the stated pressure-temperature range. Factory test acceptance does not predict unlimited field tightness.

Consider solids, cycling, erosion and installation strain. Add service-specific qualification separately.

Build traceable acceptance records

Test reports should identify valve tag or serial, instrument, pressure, hold time, medium, direction, acceptance and result. Witness status belongs in the ITP.

Keep the approved datasheet, test report and passport consistent in Russian-language documentation.
